Free Trade Agreement: Government sources in New Delhi on April 10 said that reports of India stalling talks on a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the United Kingdom over the recent pro-Khalistan protests in London are “baseless”. UK The media had earlier reported that the Indian government had “disengaged” from trade talks, indicating that talks on the FTA could not proceed without “public condemnation of the Khalistan movement”.

Government sources have denied reports that India has pulled out of trade talks with the UK after it condemned Khalistani supporters who attacked the Indian High Commission in London last month.

Sources said these reports are ‘baseless’. Britain has also officially denied any such thing. The UK side has said that negotiations on a “mutually beneficial” free trade agreement (FTA) are moving in the right direction.

The latest round of talks ended last month

“Both the UK and India are committed to finalizing an ambitious and mutually beneficial Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and the latest round of trade negotiations concluded last month,” said a UK Department of Trade spokesperson.

The next round of talks on the FTA is likely to begin in London from April 24

“Secretary James Cleverly condemned the recent acts of violence outside the Indian High Commission and we are working with the Metropolitan Police to review security and ensure the safety of staff,” he said.

The eighth round of trade talks between Britain and India was held from March 20 to March 31. Official sources said that the next round of official talks is likely to start from April 24 in London.
