Indian Student in America: America ranks first among the most preferred study destinations for Indian students. And according to a new report, more students from India came to the United States in 2022 than last year, while the number from China declined.
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement said in its annual report that the number of students from China and India made Asia the most popular continent. In the calendar year 2020 to 2021, China sent fewer students in 2022 than in 2021 (-24,796), while India sent almost (+64,300) more students.
According to the Student and Exchange Visitor Program, the number of international students enrolled in kindergarten through 12th grade is set to grow by 7.8 percent from 2021 to 2022 (+3,887). No K-12 school hosted more than 700 international students in calendar year 2022, the same number as in calendar year 2021, the report noted.
The report notes that all four regions of the United States saw record increases in international student enrollment from 2021 to 2022, with increases ranging from 8 to 11 percent. Compared to 115,651 in calendar year 2021, there was an increase of 1.4 percent.
In 2022, California had 225,173 international students, the largest percentage (16.5 percent) of international students of any US state, the report said.
Seventy percent of all international students in the United States are from Asia. Other Asian countries sending fewer students this year than last year include Saudi Arabia (-4,115), Kuwait (-658) and Malaysia (-403).
