This is not the first incident of negligence involving a crew member. Earlier on April 10, a passenger abused two female cabin crew members on a Delhi-London flight. After which the accused was banned from flying for two years.
Air India said that a passenger on our flight AI882 on May 29 behaved rudely. The passenger hurled abuse at the crew members and then assaulted one. Even after landing at Delhi Airport, the passenger continued his movement. After this he was handed over to the security personnel. We have also reported the incident to the regulator.
Safety is important to us
The spokesperson said that the safety of our crew and passengers is of utmost importance to us and we strongly condemn this senseless behavior of the passenger. We will provide all possible assistance to the affected crew members.
What does the DGCA rule say?
Under the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) rules, the passenger may be banned from flying for varying periods of time for his misconduct. According to the rules, rude behavior of passengers is divided into three levels. Cruel behavior such as physical gestures, verbal abuse and uncontrolled alcohol is classified as level 1 while physical abuse such as pushing, kicking or sexual assault is classified as level 2.
Life threatening behavior such as damage to aircraft navigation systems, physical violence such as suffocation, and homicidal assault are considered Level 3. Depending on the level of irregular behaviour, an internal committee constituted by the concerned airline may decide the period for which an unruly passenger may be banned from flying.
