Chief Secretary Verma held a review meeting of the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety at the Punjab Civil Secretariat. Meanwhile, Chief Secretary Anurag Verma has ordered strict adherence to road rules while giving the highest priority to the safety of people’s lives during road traffic in Punjab. Along with this, emphasis has been placed on the use of modern instruments to implement these rules.
The Chief Secretary said in the meeting that there is complete control over the violations like driving under the influence of alcohol, over speeding, red light violation, using mobile phone while driving without helmet and seat belt etc. which are directly related to human life. Strict checking should be done and the culprits of their violation should be given strict punishments as per law. Seizure of vehicle and cancellation of driving license should also not be avoided.
The Chief Secretary said that along with fines and punishments for obeying the road rules, community services are also being given a boost, under which the violators are being taken for blood donation, planting saplings, teaching services to school children.
He said that the Chief Minister There are clear instructions from Bhagwant Singh Mann that safety of life of the people of the state is the highest priority and therefore strict adherence to road rules is most important.
Verma further said that 800 alcohol meters are being procured to ensure strict checking of drunk drivers.
In this regard, the police department has been asked to complete this process within three months. Similarly, while encouraging e-challaning machines for efficient use of human resources, they have been asked to purchase them within a month.
