Hyundai has introduced its new generation electric car Hyundai Kona Electric. The company has made some major changes in the new Kona as compared to the current version. The new generation electric SUV comes with more range than before and the power has also been changed. The good thing is that this time the new electric car will be offered in ICE, Hybrid and all-electric powertrain options, which means the car will target different categories of customers.

Hyundai’s AccordingThe all-electric Kona Electric will come with two battery pack options, with capacities of 48.4 kWh and 65.4 kWh. The 48.4 kWh battery pack option will be mated to a single electric motor, which together will generate 153 hp power and 250 Nm torque. Whereas, the powertrain with long range 65.4 kWh battery pack will generate 215 hp power and 255 Nm torque. Let us tell you that the last generation Hyundai Kona EV gets a smaller battery pack of 39.2 kWh.

The company hasn’t revealed the range offered with the standard 48.4 kWh battery pack as of now, but has confirmed that the larger battery pack will offer a WLTP cycle range of 490 km. To extract a good range, this time the company has used a one-pedal driving system with regenerative braking system in the electric car.

In terms of safety, Hyundai has included ADAS features like blind-spot collision avoidance assist, high beam assist, lane-keeping assist and forward collision avoidance assist in the second generation Kona Electric. Apart from this, it also gets features like 8-speaker Bose sound system, head-up display, connected car technology with OTA updates and keyless entry. The company has also added a powered tailgate.

At the same time, talking about its dimensions, the new-generation Kona is 150 mm longer than the old-generation Kona, ie 4,355mm. Also, it is 25mm wider than the previous generation Kona and has a longer wheelbase by 60mm.
