Uttarakhand: Four people were killed and more than 100 police personnel injured as violence broke out during the anti-encroachment campaign in Banbhulpura area of โ€‹โ€‹Haldwani, a senior official said.
“Four people died and more than 100 police personnel were injured in violence-hit Banabhulpura,” state ADG Law and Order AP Anshuman said. After the commotion, the district administration suspended internet services and ordered closure of all schools and colleges.

โ€œInternet services have been suspended following the violence in Banbhulpura, Haldwani, in which 4 people have died and over 100 police personnel have been injured so far. The administration has also ordered to close all schools and colleges.”

After the violence, the Uttarakhand government has put the state on high alert as a precaution. Earlier, four companies of paramilitary forces have been sent to Haldwani in Nainital district after violence broke out in Banabhulpura during the anti-encroachment operation on Thursday.

According to Uttarakhand Police, two companies of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) from Udham Singh Nagar have also reached Haldwani. Police headquarters spokesperson, Inspector General Nilesh Anand Bharne said, โ€œFour companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed in the violence-hit area of โ€‹โ€‹Haldwani. Two companies of PAC have already been sent from Udham Singh Nagar.

A curfew has been imposed in Banbhulpura on the orders of the District Magistrate and orders have also been issued to shoot 'rioters' on sight. Earlier in the day, Uttarakhand Director General of Police (DGP) Abhinav Kumar said the Home Ministry had been requested to send additional central paramilitary forces.

A joint team of the district administration and the police was conducting an anti-blockade campaign in Banabhulpura of Haldwani as per the court order. In opposition to this action, some mischievous elements pelted stones at the officials and also abused them. It was also alleged that they fired at the police using illegal weapons,” informed DGP Kumar.

DGP Kumar said, โ€œThe state government has also requested the Home Ministry to provide additional police force. The home ministry has so far provided us with four companies of additional central forces,” said Kumar.
However, he said that the situation is under control. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami appealed to the people to maintain peace.
