The average waiting time of vehicles at the toll plaza during 2018-19 was 8 minutes. With the introduction of FASTag during 2020-21 and 2021-22, the average waiting time of vehicles reduced to 47 seconds. However, waiting time has improved significantly in some places, especially near cities and densely populated towns. However, there are some delays at the toll plaza during rush hours.

Gadkari said the government is planning to implement Rs 1.5-2 lakh crore worth of road projects on the Build Operate Transfer (BOT) model for highway projects of less than 1,000 km length before the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct for next year's general elections. making a plan Will tender for elections. The general elections are scheduled to be held in April-May 2024.

“Going forward, we will prioritize the Infrastructure Investment Trusts (InvITs) model for most highway construction,” he said. InvITs are vehicles designed to raise money from investors and invest it in assets that will provide cash flow over time.
