Great news for Indians wishing to visit Iran. Iran has abolished visa requirements for Indian citizens. The government of Iran has approved the abolition of visas for citizens of India from 4 February 2024. This is likely to increase Indian tourism in Iran. However, there are some conditions involved. Individuals holding ordinary passports will now be allowed to enter Iran without a visa, but some restrictions will remain.
- If you visit Iran once without a visa, you can visit Iran a second time after 6 months.
- Apart from this, under the new rule, one can stay in Iran without a visa for 15 days. This 15 day period cannot be extended.
- Visa will be given only to those people who are going to visit Iran.
- If an Indian citizen plans to stay in Iran for a long period of time or wants to come and go several times in 6 months, he will have to obtain a separate visa.
- Iran visa can be obtained from its embassy in India.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, India had arranged visa exemption with Iran only for diplomats. Earlier last year, several countries including Malaysia, Thailand and Sri Lanka have started visa-free entry for Indians. In November last year, Malaysia and Sri Lanka allowed 30-day visa-free entry for Indians.
