Government can increase DA, there will be good increase in salary

7th Pay Commission: Crores of central employees may soon get a decent pay hike. In fact, the central government may increase Dearness Allowance (DA) for more than one crore of its employees and pensioners. The government can therefore increase the DA from the current 42 percent to 45 percent as per the agreed formula.

Dearness allowance for employees and pensioners is determined every month based on the latest Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) released by the Labor Bureau.

“The CPI-IW for June 2023 was released on July 31, 2023,” All India Railwaymen’s Federation general secretary Shiv Gopal Mishra told news agency Bhasha. We are demanding a four percent increase in dearness allowance. But the government can increase the dearness allowance by three percent. There is a possibility of staying at 45 percent.

He further informed that the Department of Expenditure of the Ministry of Finance will prepare a proposal for the increase in DA and place the proposal before the Union Cabinet for approval. The increase in DA will be effective from 1 July 2023. The DA was last amended on 24 March 2023 and came into effect from 1 January 2023.

The increase took place in March

Earlier, dearness allowance was increased in March. Then the balance of DA was given from 1st January. Then DA was increased by 4 percent to 38 to 42 percent. Now once again there is a possibility of increase in dearness allowance. Employees will also get 2 months arrears due to effective July 1. Important thing is that this rate of DA is under the 7th Pay Commission. The rate of DA will be different for employees drawing salary under the old Pay Commission.

How much will the salary increase?

Suppose a central employee’s basic pay is Rs.20,000 and his DA is increased by 4%. Now multiply 20,000 by 4 percent. After calculation the answer will come to Rs 800. That means his salary has increased by 800 rupees. The DA increase will not only benefit the existing employees but also the pensioners.
