France to Launch Nationwide Single Ticket for Public Transport

The French authorities have said that the country is planning to launch a travel pass that can be used on all types of public transport the country has.

The news on the plans to launch a single transport ticket was announced by the Minister delegate in charge of transport, Clément Beaune, who said that this measure will facilitate travel and will help in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

“The single ticket is a measure that can be deployed throughout the country, and that will facilitate all travel. Ambitious and concrete measures: this is how we will reduce greenhouse gases in the transport sector and make life easier for all French people,” Minister Beaune stressed.

According to the French Ministry of Ecological Transition, the single ticket for public transport, which is expected to be fully functional by 2025, will make the daily lives of the users easier and will encourage more people to use public transport instead of personal vehicles.

In addition, the single ticket is expected to reduce the expenses of those using public transport as it is less expensive as well as more eco-friendly not to use private cars.

In order to bring this project to life as soon as possible, Minister Beaune already launched a hackathon where teams were able to share their ideas on how to develop the ‘transport ticket of tomorrow’.

Even though the authorities are yet to share more specific data on the ticket, it has been revealed that the teams will focus on making the pass compatible with all public transport systems.

This means that once the project is over and fully functional, all persons in France will be able to use the same ticket in all parts of the country.

Commenting on the country’s plan to launch a single transport ticket, President of Urban France Johanna Rolland said that this would encourage more French citizens to use public transport.

“The implementation of a single medium on a national scale to access transport networks would be an important step forward in simplifying the lives of French men and women and encouraging the use of public transport. A first step that could be extended to other sustainable mobility offers. Urban France will be fully committed to this approach,” the statement Rolland reads.

The plan was also welcomed by the President of the Regions of France, Carole Delga. The latter said that the regions are ready to cooperate, so more people choose sustainable travel.
