Four Punjabis win in Alberta provincial elections

Alberta provincial elections in Canada: On Monday, four Punjabis were elected to the provincial assembly of Alberta. A total of 15 Punjabis contested in Calgary and Edmonton. Rajan Sawhney, the current cabinet minister of the United Conservative Party (UCP), won Calgary North West.

It should be said that Sahni defeated Michael Lisboa-Smith of the New Democratic Party (NDP). Incumbent NDP MLA Jasveer Deol has won again from Edmonton Meadows. He defeated UCP’s Amritpal Singh Matharu.

NDP’s Parmeet Singh Boporai defeated incumbent UCP MLA Davinder Toor from Calgary Falconry. In Calgary North East, NDP’s Gurinder Brar defeated UCP’s Inder Grewal.

Amanpreet Singh Gill from Calgary-Bhullar-McColl, Raman Athwal from Edmonton Mill Woods, R Singh Bath from Edmonton Ellerslie, Gurinder Singh Gill from Calgary-Cross, Harry Singh from Drayton Valley-Devon, Aman Sandhu from Calgary-Cross, Jeevan in Mangat are included Brahma Ladoo from Sylvan Lake and Lethbridge-West.

According to the 2021 census, more than half of Canada’s Sikhs can be found in one of four cities – Brampton (1,63,260), Surrey (1,54,415), Calgary (49,465) and Edmonton (41,385).
