Former DGP Sumedh Saini got bail

Former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini appeared before Judicial Magistrate Ajay Pal Singh’s court and posted a surety bond of Rs 5 lakh each in two cases related to the Kotakpura firing. The next hearing of the Kotakpura shooting case will be held on April 12.

Advocate Jaswant Singh said that till now 5 accused have taken bail in this case while one accused former DIG Amarjit Singh Chahal has remained on bail. He has also applied for bail in the High Court.

He said that the bail of former DGP Sumedh Singh has been released by paying a surety bond of 5 lakhs in the court of District Magistrate Ajaypal Singh. Meanwhile, former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini stayed in the court for three hours. He said that SIT wants to take the matter to the session court by April 27. The order of the High Court is that all the cases related to this matter should be tried in a single court. Already the case of Behbal Kalan shooting is going on in the session court. In such a situation, the Kotakpura shooting case is also set to go to the Sessions Court.

Let us tell you that on 12 October 2015, after the incident of desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib in Bargari, Faridkot, Sikh organizations started demonstrations in Kotakpura and Behbalkal. On October 14, the ongoing demonstrations in Kotakpura and Behbalkal were ended by the police using force. 2 Sikh youths were killed in police firing in Bahibalkal. About 100 protesters were injured. On 7 August 2018, the police had registered a case of intent-to-murder against unidentified people.
