Flood-like situation in many districts of Tamil Nadu, schools-colleges closed

Several districts of Tamil Nadu have become flood-like due to severe waterlogging as the southern part of the state receives incessant rains. All schools, colleges, private institutions, banks and financial institutions in Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Kanyakumari and Tenkasi districts were closed after overnight rains.

According to a drone visual shared by the news agency, Thoothukudi town remained largely submerged till Monday as a result of incessant rain in several parts of Tamil Nadu since Sunday. Large areas of Thoothukudi district have been inundated as a result of incessant rains. The IMD has issued a 'red alert' for Tenkasi, Thoothukudi, Thiruvanelli and Kanyakumari districts.

“For the next 24 hours, 'red alert' has been asked to continue for Tenkasi, Thoothukudi, Thiruvanelli and Kanyakumari districts,” said Chennai Regional Meteorological Center Director S Balachandran. Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Ramanathapuram districts of Tamil Nadu are likely to receive heavy rain at one or two places.

All schools, colleges, private institutions, banks and financial institutions remained closed in Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Kanyakumari and Tenkasi districts on Monday due to heavy rain. The state government had ordered to close them in view of the rain.
