Farmers have blocked the Jammu-Delhi National Highway in Haryana’s Kurukshetra. Farmers have sat on GT Road in Shahabad-Markanda demanding the purchase of sunflower at minimum support price. Seeing this, the police have put up barricades all around. The atmosphere on the spot remains tense. Seeing the possibility of conflict between the two parties, the police has deployed three levels of security. Along with this, langar has also been ordered from Gurdwara Sahib due to the protest.

Farmer leader Gurnam Chaduni, who is leading the protest, said that the national highway will remain blocked until the demand to buy our sunflowers at minimum support price is met. He said that a meeting was also held in this regard but the government did not show any seriousness. Chadhuni said that talks are going on with the administration but he too is helpless with the government’s response.

The police administration had made elaborate arrangements to stop the farmers at Barara Chowk. Barricades were put up on both sides in Barara Chowk. A Vraj vehicle was also stationed there to deal with any emergency, so that the advancing farmers could be stopped by raining water. But the farmers blocked the highway till Markanda bridge.

The farmers had warned the government and the administration to jam the National Highway on June 6. Today was the last day of farmers’ ultimatum. About which the administration also knew. As soon as the ultimatum ended, the farmers came on the road but the police could not stop them from climbing the highway.

This whole matter is about MSP purchase
The government is ready to buy sunflowers under the Bhavantar scheme but the farmers are opposing the government. They demand that due to this scheme the farmers are facing a loss of more than one thousand per quintal. Therefore, the crop should be purchased at minimum support price.

In this regard, the farmers had warned to block the road on June 2, but DC Shantanu Sharma and SP Surinder Singh reached the Mahapanchayat. He had sent a delegation of farmers along with officials to Chandigarh for talks with the government, but the meeting with the government remained inconclusive.
