Farmer leader objecting to sand mining on shamlat land run over by tractor-trailer | News Ticker

PTC Web Desk: Farmer Gurcharan Singh, in his early sixties, was allegedly run over by a tractor-trailer after he tried to stop mining sand from shamlat land at Barana village on Friday. The police have arrested one suspect and booked two persons in the case.

As per information, the incident took place when deceased Gurcharan Singh and his son Bhupinder reportedly tried to stop a tractor-trailer from taking sand from shamlat land in teh wee hours of Saturday.

ASP, Dera Bassi, Darpan Ahluwalia, said the suspects ran over trailer-trailer over Gurcharan while others ran for safety.

Gurcharan was taken to the Dera Bassi Civil Hospital, where he was declared brought dead. He was a local leader of the BKU (Ugrahan).

The police have arrested suspect Jaswinder and impounded the tractor-trailer. Two other tractor-trailers and one earthmover have also been recovered from the shamlat land. A case has been registered and further investigations are on.

The Dera Bassi ASP said while the suspects belonged to Jaandli village, near Haryana border, the deceased belonged to Barana village, near Handesra in Lalru.
