EU Citizens’ Interest in Visiting Azerbaijan Increases Significantly

European Union citizens’ interest in visiting Azerbaijan has marked a notable increase based on the figures from the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan.

According to a report from Azernews, in January this year, the number of arrivals from the EU countries increased by 1.5 times to 4,700 people, compared to January 2023 SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

At the same time, the same source shows that the number of arrivals from CIS countries has surged by 25.1 per cent to 61,300 people, and the number of arrivals from the Gulf countries increased by 1.6 times to a total of 35,100 people.

In January this year, a total of 165,800 internationals from 153 countries of the world, or 39,3 per cent more internationals in the annual comparison, visited Azerbaijan.

The same source reveals that a total of 27,5 per cent of visitors came from Russia, followed by 19,8 per cent of those from Türkiye, 9,7 per cent from Iran, 6,1 per cent from India, and 4,9 per cent from Georgia.

In January 2024, a total of 3,5 per cent of visitors came from Saudi Arabia, followed by 2.9 per cent from Kazakhstan, 2.7 per cent from the United Arab Emirates, 2.5 per cent from Pakistan, 2,4 per cent from Kuwait, 2 per cent from Uzbekistan, 1.8 per cent from Oman, as well as 1.5 per cent from Turkmenistan, 1.3 per cent from Ukraine, 1 per cent from Belarus, while 10.4 per cent of the visitors were citizens of other countries.

The figures from the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan revealed that of the total number of visitors registered in January this year, 74.2 per cent of the visitors were men, and 25.8 per cent were women.

In addition, the figures also revealed that compared to January 2023, the number of visitors from China (3.9 times), Kyrgyzstan (3.4 times) and Bahrain (2.7) times marked the most significant increase.

At the same time, a notable increase in the number of visitors travelling to Azerbaijan from European countries also marked an increase in January this year, compared to January 2023, or more specifically, Spain 1.7 times, Poland 33.7 per cent, and France 22.4 per cent.

The figures reveal that compared to the first month of last year, the number of visitors from European Union countries in January this year increased by 1.5 times to 4,700 people.

The statistics also revealed that 67.5 per cent of international and foreign citizens who visited Azerbaijan came by air transportation, 31.3 used railway and car, and 1.4 per cent used sea transportation.
