Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) on Friday said it has tied up with the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA) to promote the use of ethanol and create awareness about it as an environment-friendly biofuel in India. Sudeep S Dalvi, Senior Vice President and Chief Communications Officer, TKM, said in a statement, “The company is constantly studying various advanced engines with green technologies as well as promoting self-sufficiency in the field of energy. ISMA President Aditya Jhunjhunwala said that ethanol forms an important part of India’s energy mix, and with this joint effort, both the organizations look forward to contribute better towards the larger goal of achieving self-sufficiency in energy.
The government is actively promoting the use of ethanol as a biofuel and has set an ambitious target of achieving 20 per cent ethanol blending in petrol by the year 2025. By FY 2025-26, it is expected that 86 million barrels of petrol will be replaced by 20 percent ethanol, saving India Rs 30,000 crore in foreign exchange and reducing carbon emissions by 10 million tonnes.
