Eminent lawyer and former ASG Fli S Nariman passes away

India's eminent jurist and veteran Supreme Court advocate Fli S Nariman passed away at the age of 95 on Wednesday. He breathed his last in Delhi. Nariman had over 70 years of experience as a lawyer.

In November 1950, Flea S. Nariman was registered as an advocate in the Bombay High Court. He was promoted to senior advocate in 1961. After the Bombay High Court, Nariman began practice in the Supreme Court of India in 1972. He was appointed Additional Solicitor General of India in May 1972.

Eminent Jurist Fali S Nariman Passes Away

Nariman was awarded the Padma Bhushan in January 1991. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2007. Besides being a senior advocate, he was also the President of the Bar Association of India from 1991 to 2010. Along with this, his stature was very high at the international level as well. Nariman was also the Vice-Chairman of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce from 1989 to 2005. He was also the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the International Commission of Jurists in Geneva from 1995 to 1997.

Prime Minister Modi has expressed grief over the demise of Nariman. He wrote in a post on X, “Mr. Fli Nariman dedicated his entire life to providing access to justice to common citizens. Deeply saddened by his demise. My condolences to his family and fans. May his soul rest in peace.”
