In March 2012, the appeal made by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee on the order of Shri Akal Takht Sahib Ji to change the death sentence of Virji Rajoana Ji to life imprisonment has been pending with the Union Home Ministry for the last 12 years. No decision is being taken on this appeal by the central government for the last 12 years. In 2019, on the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Patshah Ji, the notification issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to commute the death sentence of Virji Rajoana Ji to life imprisonment was also not implemented. Virji Rajoana filed a petition in the Supreme Court to take a decision on this appeal. The Court of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court ordered the Central Government several times to decide on this appeal, but still the Central Government did not take any decision on this appeal. In the end, the Supreme Court also became helpless and asked the central government to take a decision when you feel it is right. This is the first time in the history of the country that the central government did not take a decision on the appeal to the President for 12 years. To raise voice against this injustice, we met Jathedar Singh Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh Ji of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Ji on 5th June and he also assured to make efforts in this regard.
