Diljit Dosanjh's film has been banned even before its release

Amar Singh Chamkila Biopic Stopped: A Ludhiana court has stayed the release of Amar Singh Chamkila’s biopic. Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra are playing the lead roles in the film. Both the actors and the filmmaker have been summoned by the court on May 3.

The Ludhiana court gave this order while hearing the petition filed by Ishjit Randhawa and Sanjot Randhawa, sons of late producer Gurdev Singh Randhawa. Chamkila’s wife Gurmail Kaur had on 12 October 2012 given the rights to the father of both the complainants to make a biopic of her husband. He also got 5 lakh rupees. No time limit was set for making the biopic.

On 3 November 2022, the complainant’s father died. When the petitioner started making arrangements to make the biopic and contacted Gurmail Kaur, she kept on postponing the matter on one or the other pretext. Later he came to know that a film was already being made on Chamkila and Amarjot Kaur.

Since this matter has reached the court, there have been two to three hearings regarding this matter. Earlier this film was stopped from being released in theatres. After which it was considered to release it on the OTT platform. But now the court stopped its print from being released anywhere. Along with this, actor Chamkila’s wife has been asked to appear in the court on May 3.

Chamkila was murdered on March 8

Amar Singh Chamkila was an eminent Punjabi folk singer, lyricist and composer. Both Chamkila and his wife Amarjot were shot dead on 8 March 1988. Several conspiracies were hatched to kill the singer and his wife. Chamkila and Amarjot were shot by unidentified assailants. Members of his party were also injured in this attack.
