Many important investigations done in ATS
Notably, Nayak was involved in the investigation into the murder of Thane-based businessman Mansukh Hiran in 2021 during his time in the ATS. In fact, Mansukh’s murder was linked to the recovery of an explosives-laden car near Antilia in Mumbai of industrialist Mukesh Ambani. However, the investigation of Antilia bomb case and Mansukh murder case was later transferred to NIA. The Maharashtra ATS had collected evidence against the policemen who were made accused in the high-profile case.
It may be noted that Daya Nayak, a 1995 batch police inspector, had earned a reputation as an ‘encounter specialist’ during the heyday of underworld activities in Mumbai in the 1990s. He also claims to have killed more than 80 gangsters during his career.
