The Chief Minister said that there has been a decisive change in this time’s Girdavari compared to the previous government because earlier there were only vague claims and no compensation was given to the people at the ground level. Bhagwant Mann said that during the previous governments, Girdavari was dependent only on the will of the politically rich people due to which no real beneficiary got help. He said that instead of going to the fields, such girdavaris were performed in the homes of rich people.

The Chief Minister said that this time a fully transparent procedure has been adopted to conduct the Girdavari smoothly. Bhagwant Mann said that he had promised that the compensation process would be started before Baisakhi and it is a matter of great satisfaction that the campaign has started today ahead of schedule. The Chief Minister said that his government has increased the compensation amount to farmers for crop damage by 25 percent. If the loss is more than 75 percent, the state government will compensate the farmers at the rate of Rs 15,000 per acre. Similarly, he said that if the damage is from 33 to 75 percent, the farmers will be compensated at the rate of Rs. 6800 per acre. The Chief Minister quipped, โ€œDuring the previous governments, there was such a delay in compensation that most of the ministers and MLAs used to forget which crop they were distributing the compensation cheques. Now in your government the crop is still in the fields but the money has been deposited in the accounts.โ€

The Chief Minister said that instead of pleading with the Center to compensate the farmers for the loss of their crops due to rain, the state should bear the entire cost of the financial burden on the farmers due to the reduction in the price of broken and shriveled wheat grains by the Government of India. The government will endure. He said that the farmers have suffered heavy losses due to continuous rains, but the apathy of the central government has not done anything to help the farmers, but to rub salt on the wounds of the farmers, the center has reduced the price of the damaged food grains.

He said that the Food Corporation of India (FCI) cannot survive without the hardworking farmers of the state.
