Breaking the old tradition of a Chief Minister conducting an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann today personally got down in the flood waters and took stock of the relief work.

The Chief Minister was wearing a white-kurta pajama but he did not hesitate to wade into the floodwaters along with senior officials of the state government and the district administration to oversee the relief work. Bhagwant Maan also visited the flooded fields where JCB Monitored the work being done. While inspecting the affected areas near Ghaggar, the Chief Minister on the spot ordered the officials to remain engaged in the affected areas and said that people should not face any kind of trouble.

The Chief Minister said that developed countries like America, Spain are also facing the problem of floods and nature has wreaked havoc in the state. He said that the continuous rain in the hill states and Punjab has created this situation in the state. Bhagwant Mann said that his government is committed to save the people in this dire crisis and will leave no stone unturned for this noble cause.

The Chief Minister said that human life is the most important, due to which all possible efforts are being made to protect it. He asked people living in low-lying and flood-prone areas to move to safer places to ensure their safety. Bhagwant Mann said that it is the duty of the state government that people should not face any kind of trouble.

The Chief Minister said that this is not the time to politicize this issue, rather all Punjabis should unite to deal with this natural calamity. Bhagwant Mann said that he is not going around in a helicopter to conduct a survey like the Chief Ministers before him, but he has landed on the ground to take stock of the actual situation. He said that the situation is alarming but still the state government is making all possible efforts to minimize the loss of people.

The Chief Minister also said that a special vigil would be conducted to ascertain the damage to crops, houses and other areas due to heavy rains in the state. He said that detailed instructions have been issued to the Deputy Commissioners to conduct an immediate inspection to ascertain the damage caused due to rains on a priority basis. Bhagwant Mann assured the people that the government is committed to protect their interests from the wrath of nature.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister said that there is no need for the people to panic as the Punjab government is there to serve them by keeping a constant watch on the situation arising after the continuous rains across the state. He said that this is a natural calamity and it will be fought vigorously with the full cooperation of all. He said that in this difficult time, the state government stands with the people of Punjab and will leave no stone unturned to get rid of this crisis. Bhagwant Mann appealed to the people not to worry about anything as the state government is already making concerted efforts to ease the situation.

The Chief Minister said that he is personally taking stock of the situation from every corner of the state on a minute-by-minute basis. He said that the heavy rain is beyond anyone’s control, but all possible efforts are being made to ensure that people do not face any kind of problem.

Bhagwant Mann said that already all the Cabinet Ministers, MLAs and officials are engaged in their respective fields and are reaching out to the needy people in this difficult time.
MLA Lehra Barinder Goyal, Deputy Commissioner Jitinder Jorwal, SSP Surendra Lamba, Chairman Jasveer Singh Kudni and other officials were also present on this occasion.
