Balbir Singh reviewed the activities being done by various departments to deal with the growing threat of dengue, malaria and other vector-borne diseases and directed all the departments to work together to prevent the spread of these diseases.
He asked the people to take precautions and asked them to clean and dry every Friday all possible places where water is likely to stand, including refrigerator trays, coolers, containers, pots, roofs etc. in homes, offices. Cabinet ministers said it was the only way to break the breeding cycle of mosquitoes, which can hatch from eggs in just a week.
The health minister said that the situation regarding vector-borne diseases in Punjab is currently under complete control. A total of 440 dengue cases have been reported in Punjab since the beginning of the season, out of which 114 are active dengue cases. It is to be noted that no one has died due to dengue so far.
The department has identified 10 hotspots (sensitive places) in Punjab where health teams have been deployed for surveillance and are being monitored on a daily basis by state officials. Apart from this, the services of 855 breeding checkers are also being taken.
The Health Minister has directed the Health, Local Government, Water Supply and Sanitation, Transport and Rural Development Departments to monitor the mosquito larvae and Village Health, Sanitation and Nutrition Committees (VHS) for checking different areas and residences. NCs) and Mahila Arogya Samiti (MAS) urged to work through coordination and also directed to issue challan for any violation. He also emphasized on appointing nodal officers at state and district level for better coordination between all concerned departments.
Dr. Balbir Singh said that the health department has created special wards with 1300 beds to deal with any kind of emergency in case of increase in cases of dengue, malaria and chikungunya. He said that dengue and malaria test and treatment is absolutely free at all government health facilities.

Apart from this, seeing the increase in cases of eye flu and skin infection, the health minister advised people not to touch their eyes after shaking hands with anyone or touching anything in public places to avoid this infection. He said that the eyes should be touched only after washing their hands thoroughly.
Prevention is better than cure
• Clean the coolers once a week and keep them dry for a day
• Do not place containers like pots, broken items, tires etc. on roofs to prevent standing water.
• Identify all possible sources and sites where mosquitoes are likely to breed and take appropriate measures in advance.
• Spray insecticides in and around the house
Do not close the doors and windows of the house while the teams are spraying pesticides
• In case of fever report immediately to the health institution
