Bullet Train Project: SC refuses to entertain Godrej’s plea seeking higher compensation for land acquisition

The Supreme Court on Friday ordered Godrej and Boyce Manufacture Ring Company Limited’s Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train Refused to consider his plea for more compensation for 9.69 acres of land for the project. The apex court said that this project is of national importance.

Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and Justice P.S. Narasimha and JB Pardiwala told senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, representing Godrej & Boyce Manufacturing Co Ltd, that the court was not ready to entertain the plea. Court said the bench said, a lot of water has flowed, the land has been occupied and Construction has begun. At the same time, Mukul Rohatgi repeatedly questioned the validity of the order. The bench replied that it would not consider the company’s plea.

SC said it is a national project

After hearing the arguments, the top court said that if an application is filed for enhancement of compensation, it should be decided within six weeks. The bench further said to Rohatgi, it is only a question of money. This is a national project. Along with this, the apex court also allowed the company to take legal recourse to increase the compensation.

Godrej’s petition was dismissed by the Bombay High Court

The company’s petition challenged the validity of the Bombay High Court’s decision, passed earlier this month, dismissing a petition filed by Godrej & Boyce Manufacture Co. 264 crore was challenged in the grant.

The company challenged the compensation of Rs 264 crore

The Godrej group challenged the Rs 264 crore award and compensation by the deputy collector on September 15, 2022, for acquisition of 39,252 square meters (9.69 acres). The company said that it was initially offered Rs 572 crore and filed a writ petition challenging the provisions of the law.
