BSNL grappling with fall in Revenue in Many Circles West Bengal is worst Performer for Company

Difficulties have increased for Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), a government telecom company running on the revival package received from the central government. During April to December last year, the revenue of the company decreased in 13 circles. The Chief General Managers (CGMs) of these circles have been asked to take immediate steps to deal with the situation.

Apart from this, the company’s revenue has weakened in Kerala, Jammu and Kashmir, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand and Northeast.

The letter asked the CGMs of the revenue short circles to take immediate steps to improve the performance and report the same to the corporate office. The company’s total revenue in the first nine months of the current financial year stood at Rs 12,748 crore, up nearly 14 per cent year-on-year. However, the company has been hit by widening net loss. Net loss widened from Rs 5,424 crore to Rs 5,457 crore during the period. The major reason for this is the increase in expenses like employee cost.

Earlier this month, Minister of State for Communications Devusinh Chauhan said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, “BSNL is likely to achieve net profit in the financial year 2026-27.” The Union Cabinet had approved a revival package for BSNL and MTNL about four years ago. The package includes measures such as infusion of fresh capital to upgrade BSNL’s services, allocating spectrum, reducing deficit in the balance sheet and upgrading the company’s fiber network by merging it with Bharat Broadband Nigam Limited.
