Homosexuality is being recognized in many progressive countries of the world. There is a continuous debate about this in India as well. Meanwhile, the African country Uganda has drafted a law against the LGBTQ community. This law, passed by Uganda’s parliament, criminalizes same-sex relationships. Not only this, preparations are being made to provide the death penalty for having homosexual relations in Uganda. Let us know that more than 30 countries in Africa have banned homosexuality.

A bill was passed in the Parliament of Uganda on Tuesday. Under this, expressing homosexual identity will be considered a crime. Along with this, it has also been said that death penalty can be given in serious cases of homosexuality. Violation of the rules related to this law is punishable by life imprisonment or death.

When can the death penalty be given?
The bill, passed by Parliament, needs the President’s signature to become law. According to the bill, those who engage in same-sex relationships with people under the age of 18 or who engage in same-sex relationships despite being infected with HIV will be punished with death. A man marrying a man or marrying a woman shall be punished with imprisonment for life.

After being passed by Parliament, the bill will now be sent to Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni for assent. He himself has been against homosexuality. Let us tell you that a similar law was made in Uganda in 2013 but it could not be implemented after opposition from Western countries and a stay by the local court.
