Big news has come out about Pong Dam. According to the information received, water will be released from Pong Dam today at 4 pm. At the same time, orders have been issued to the residents of Shahnahir, Talwara, Mukerian living below the dam to remain alert.

The Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) will release 22,300 cusecs of water today from Pong Dam in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. Senior Design Engineer, Water Regulation Cell, B. B. M. B. According to the notification issued by the agency, the maximum possible release will be done through one turbine of Pong Power House in Kangra district while 4,377 cusecs will be released through the spillway starting from 4 pm today.

The water level of the dam has reached 1,367.87 feet against the storage capacity of 1,410 feet and release of water is a normal process. The notification said that the Deputy Commissioner of Kangra, Sub Divisional Officers (Civil), Irrigation, Drainage and Flood Control authorities in the state have been informed and asked to take necessary precautions.

 

Officials have advised people living on the banks of the Beas River to be alert and take precautions and not to go near the river. Heavy rains wreaked havoc in Himachal Pradesh in the past, causing landslides, flash floods, damage to roads and infrastructure. According to the state’s Emergency Response Center, the state has suffered a loss of Rs 4,357 crore since the onset of monsoon on June 24. It may be mentioned that even before this, the water level of Pong Dam had increased due to the heavy rains in the hilly areas in the past, due to which 20 thousand cusecs of water was released from this dam into the Beas River.
