Attack on police party who went to stop illegal mining

Illegal Mining in Sutlej River: Late at night, they attacked the Assistant Superintendent of Police and employees of the Machiwara Police who went to stop illegal sand mining on the banks of the Sutlej River. An illegal trolley full of sand was also rescued from the possession of the attacking police and the arrested accused was also taken away.

It should be said that the Machiwara police have registered a case against more than seven persons who have been identified and many other unidentified persons under various sections of murderous attack and other sections.

On the other hand, when the SSP of Police District Khanna came to know about the incident that their police officers and employees were attacked and the accused was taken away from possession, heavy forces surrounded the attackers’ village Tandi Mand early in the morning. A raid was also conducted by the police to arrest the alleged culprits, out of which two main culprits were arrested.

SSP of police district Khanna Amanit Kondal told reporters that the police had received information that illegal sand mining was going on on the banks of the river Sutlej, on which the assistant police officer Jaswant Singh reached the spot along with the police party. The police party caught the trolley full of sand from Sutlej river and also arrested the driver.

He further said that when the police party was coming towards the Machiwara police station after arresting the sand-laden trolley and the driver, the people in a car surrounded the police officers on the way. The car occupants started scuffling with the police, even attacking the police with sticks. A trolley full of sand and the arrested accused were also freed from the possession of the police by the attacking police.

According to available information, Assistant Police Station Officer Jaswant Singh and employee Paramjit Singh, who were injured in this attack, were admitted to the hospital for treatment. SSP Khanna said that in this attack the bones of both the workers were also fractured while some other workers suffered minor injuries.

According to the police, out of the persons against whom the case was registered, 2 alleged accused Shashi Pal and Ved Pal (both father and son) residents of Tandi Mand have been arrested while the rest are said to be absconding.
