ASI taking bribe caught red-handed by Vigilance Bureau

Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested Assistant Sub Inspector-Local Rank (ASI) Rajinder Singh posted at Police Station, Haryana, District Hoshiarpur for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs.5,000 during the ongoing campaign against corruption in the state.

Disclosing this here today, the spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said that the above policeman has been arrested on the complaint of Sanjay alias Ashu, a resident of Bassi Nau, Haryana.

Giving further details, he said that the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau and alleged that the above-mentioned policeman demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 in exchange for submitting the challan of a case registered in the Haryana police station against the complainant.

The spokesman said that after the preliminary investigation of the complaint, a team of the Vigilance Bureau’s Jalandhar range laid a trap and arrested the accused policeman on the spot by accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 in the presence of two government witnesses. In this regard, the accused ASI in the police station of the Vigilance Bureau, Jalandhar range. A case has been registered against him under Prevention of Corruption Act. Further investigation of the matter is ongoing.
