Chandigarh – Punjab Vigilance Bureau today arrested Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Arun Kumar posted at Meharban Police Station (Ludhiana) on the charge of accepting a bribe of Rs 6,000 from a laborer as part of the campaign against corruption in the state.

Giving information in this regard, the spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said that the said ASI. has been arrested on the complaint of Laborer (Paledar) Kirpa Shankar resident of Punjabi Bagh, Ludhiana.
He said that the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau and alleged that the said policeman has been harassing him by repeatedly demanding bribe for the past few months. He said that the said ASI. IPC against him (complainant) at Thana Meharban. FIR registered under Sections 365,323/34 No. 163/2020 has already taken Rs.25,000 as bribe in installments from him by threatening to cancel his bail.

ASI Arun Kumar was the investigating officer of this case. The complainant was granted anticipatory bail on 09/02/2021 in the said case.
The spokesperson said that the ASI had taken a bribe of Rs 1500 from this laborer on 19 June 2023 and he was asking for Rs 10,000 more, but on the repeated request of the complainant, he agreed to take Rs 8000 and the said Out of the amount, the accused A.S.I. On June 20, 2023, he had taken Rs.2000 and now he was demanding the remaining Rs.6000.
The spokesperson said that after the preliminary investigation of the complaint, the team of Vigilance Bureau police station Ludhiana range laid a trap and caught the said policeman red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs. 6,000 from the complainant near the court complex, Ludhiana in the presence of two government witnesses.

In this regard, ASI A case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against him at Vigilance Bureau Police Station Ludhiana Range. Further investigation of the matter is going on and the accused will be produced in the court tomorrow.
