ASI arrested for taking Rs 10 thousand bribe

Punjab Vigilance Bureau: As part of the campaign against corruption in Punjab, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau today arrested Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI/LR) Bhupinder Singh posted at Chatiwind police station (Amritsar) for accepting a bribe of Rs.10,000. Giving information in this regard, the spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said that the said policeman has been arrested on the complaint of Sarwan Singh, a resident of village Gurwali, district Amritsar.

Giving more information, he said that the complainant has reached the Police Station Vigilance Range Amritsar and complained that IPC was registered against him and others at Chatiwind Police Station. In the case registered on 13-02-2023 under section 323, 379-A, 427, 452, 506, 148 and 149 of the High Court, ASI in lieu of regular bail. Bhupinder Singh demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 from him because A.S.I. Bhupinder Singh was the investigating officer of this case.

The spokesman said that after the preliminary investigation of this complaint, the team of Amritsar range of the Vigilance Bureau laid a trap and caught the said policeman in the presence of two government witnesses by taking a bribe of Rs. 10,000 from the complainant. In this regard, a case has been registered against the said ASI at Vigilance Police Station Amritsar Range under Prevention of Corruption Act and further investigation of this matter is going on.
