Let us tell that while Punjab BJP president Ashwini Sharma has resigned, sources say that Sunil Jakhar can be appointed as the new president of Punjab BJP. Sunil Jakhar’s name is currently leading the race for the post of Punjab BJP president. However, the official confirmation about handing over the command to Sunil Jakhar is yet to come.

Who is Sunil Jakhar?

Sunil Jakhar was also the president of the Punjab Congress and he left the party to join the BJP in May 2022. Sunil Jakhar was the president of Punjab Congress for 4 years before Navjot Singh Sidhu was made the Congress president in 2021.

Apart from this, Sunil Jakhar has been Member of Parliament from Gurdaspur and two-time MLA from Abohar Assembly Constituency and has also served as Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly between 2012-2016. He became the state Congress president in 2017 and was made the head of the campaign committee for the 2022 elections.
