The seat fell vacant following the retirement of Conservative MP Dave McKenzie. The special thing is that for the first time a son of an Indian family has become an MP from this seat.

Arpan Khanna of Canada’s main opposition Conservative Party won with 16,144 votes against Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party candidate David Hilderley’s 13,574 votes.

Arpan Khanna received 43 percent of the vote, while his nearest rival, David Hilderley of the Liberal Party, managed only 36 percent. Subhash Khanna from Raikot settled in Canada decades ago. Arpan Khanna was born in Canada and gained membership in the Conservative Party of Canada after practicing law. He was considered very close to former Prime Minister of Canada Stephen Harper based on his tireless work for the party for the last 10 years.

There was a wave of happiness in the Indian community

Arpan Khanna became a very popular leader of the Conservative Party due to his warm relationship with former Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and former Immigration Minister Jason Kenney. In a special conversation with Canada, Jagdish Grewal, the owner of Radio Khabarsar, said that the voting for the by-election for the Oxford (Woodstock) parliamentary seat was held on Monday and after the results, there was a wave of happiness among the villagers.
