Recently, the Special Court of Pakistan sentenced Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi to 10 years in prison in the case of leaking confidential documents. Now, based on the decision of the court, the Election Commission of Pakistan has barred Qureshi from contesting for 5 years. The Election Commission said in a statement that Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi has been declared ineligible to contest the election under Section 63(1) of the Election Act under the Constitution of Pakistan. Qureshi will not be able to participate in the upcoming general elections on February 8.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Imran Khan were found guilty of leaking confidential documents during a rally last year. In fact, a letter from the diplomatic channel was waved by Imran Khan in the rally and claimed that a conspiracy is being hatched from America to topple his government. At that time, Shah Mahmood Qureshi was the foreign minister of Pakistan. Imran Khan has also been sentenced to 10 years in jail in this case.
