Amritpal Singh arrest: Intelligence agencies keeping close watch on Punjab situation | Punjab

New Delhi, March 18: Intelligence agencies are keeping a close watch on Punjab with Intelligence Bureau (IB), Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), and other agencies on their toes amid tense situation in the state over “arrest” of Khalistani sympathizer Amritpal Singh.

According to a senior official, the state had sought several companies of paramilitary forces and these have been provided to maintain law and order situation.

“We are keeping a close watch on the situation unfolding in Punjab. Intelligence Bureau (IB), Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), and other agencies are on their toes and regularly updating regarding the situation in Punjab,” he added.

Another officer stated that additional paramilitary companies requested by the state government have been deployed at various checkpoints and other locations all across Punjab to deal with any law and order situation.

“We are keeping a close watch on developments and reporting it to seniors in Delhi. Agencies are keeping a watch on social media posts. We have come across several objectionable posts and memes that might have been shared by ISI operatives from Pakistan,” he added.

The agencies have received information about Amritpal Singh’s ties to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence.

According to a source, Amritpal Singh, who now heads ‘Waris Punjab De,’ was in close contact with Jaswant Singh Rode, brother of militant and Pakistan-based International Sikh Youth Federation (ISYF) chief Lakhbir Singh Rode. Basant Singh Daulatpura, Amritpal Singh’s treasurer, was receiving funds from Pakistan.

Since Amritpal Singh arrived in Punjab last year, security agencies have been closely monitoring his activities. His activities were regularly reported to the Punjab Police.

Punjab Police has urged people to maintain peace and harmony, and not to panic or spread fake news or hate speech.
