Amazon’s big preparation, together with this company will prepare smart car and delivery van

Amazon and Stellantis NV have partnered. The two companies will collaborate to develop cars and trucks with Amazon software in the dashboard. Also, Stellantis electric vans will be deployed on Amazon’s delivery network. Through this agreement, Amazon has taken forward its efforts to establish its foothold in the transport industry. Stellantis will also benefit from this. Currently, this partnership has seen the stock of Stellantis rise by more than 3 per cent.

According to Reuters, the agreement between online retailer Amazon and cloud computing power Stelantis was signed at the CES technology conference. The two companies said they would work together to develop software for the ‘Digital Cockpit’ infotainment system for Stelantis Vehicles, to be launched in 2024. Stelantis said it will use Amazon Alexa technology for voice-controlled features, navigation, vehicle maintenance, e-commerce marketplace and payment services.

Large e-commerce delivery fleet operators like Amazon mean a lot to automakers. There is a lot of competition among the big automakers and startups of this sector to electrify the package delivery system of the world.

Amazon will also assist Stelantis in accelerating the development of new digital products and “improving Stelantis’ global workforce”. Stelantis and other big automakers are trying their best to compete with Elon Musk’s Tesla. As part of this partnership, Stelantis will use Amazon as its ‘cloud provider of choice’ to deliver mobile networks and computing power to its future vehicles.

Stelantis will launch electric delivery vans in 2023. Amazon will be the company’s first customer. The companies said they plan to take thousands of electric vans off the roads every year. Amazon has also tied up with a startup ‘Rivian Automotive’ to buy one lakh electric vans.

At the same time, Stelantis had agreed with Foxconn in May last year to form a joint venture to supply in-car and connected-car technology. Foxconn is the same company that assembles the iPhone for Apple. Significantly, all the companies are partnering with each other to bring new technology in the electric vehicle segment.
