Bharti Airtel, one of the country’s largest telecom companies, said on Thursday that it has crossed the mark of more than one million 5G subscribers in Mumbai. The company has got one crore users of 5G across the country. Airtel aims to provide this service to every city and important rural areas of the country by the end of March next year.

the company has toldAirtel was the first company to launch 5G service in the country and Mumbai was among the first eight cities to have the ultra-fast Airtel 5G Plus service. The company’s 5G network is available in over 140 cities across the country. In Mumbai it has started at Gateway of India, Nariman Point, Film City, Bandra-Kurla Complex, Chhatrapati Shivaji Railway Terminus and other important locations. “We will continue to expand our network to more locations in the city, giving more customers access to superfast high-definition video streaming and gaming,” said Vibhor Gupta, CEO of the company’s Mumbai circle.

In December last year, Airtel launched 5G service in Jammu and Kashmir. Last month, the company had rolled out this high-speed network in Ahmedabad, Visakhapatnam, Gandhinagar, Imphal, Shimla, Pune and Lucknow. Airtel plans to increase mobile call and data rates this year. Last month, the company had increased the minimum recharge of 28-day mobile service plan by about 57 per cent to Rs 155 in eight circles. The company’s chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal told earlier this week that the return on investment in the telecom business is very low and this year Tariff can be increased.

“The hike in tariffs will be done for all plans,” he added. Mittal said that the company has made a lot of investments and strengthened the balance sheet, but the returns on it are very low. When asked about the impact of the hike in tariffs on the vulnerable sections, Mittal said that the increase is less in comparison to the expenditure on other things by the people. He said, “Salaries have increased and rent has also increased. No one is complaining about it. People are using 30 GB of data almost without paying anything. We need a strong telecom company in the country.” ”
