Budapest Airport has been awarded the Best Airport in Europe by the Airports Council International (ACI), which is determined based on the world’s leading passenger satisfaction survey.

According to Luis Felipe de Oliveira, the Director General of ACI World, passengers have recognised the successful efforts of all airports and the programme, the Airport Service Quality (ASQ), reflects these results, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

Furthermore, Chris Dinsdale, CEO of Budapest Airport, said that this result is joint work of the airport community, which was achieved by actively listening to passengers.

“The customer is at the centre of everything we do. We actively listen to our passengers and ensure we evolve with our approach to their needs and expectations. Travel experience starts at the airport, and we are exceptionally honoured to be a role model in the global aviation industry,” Dinsdale said.

The Hungarian hub was in competition with Europe’s airports and was awarded the title of the best airport based on the 15 to 25 million annual passenger categories.

ACI represents the best interest of airports and is determined to make contributions that ensure a safe, secure, efficient and sustainable global air transport system. The 2022 ACI ASQ Awards will be held in a ceremony at the Customer Experience Global Summit on September 6 in Incheon.

While Budapest was awarded the best airport for passengers, Abu Dhabi Airports were recognised for their commitment and received the award for the best airport at arrivals globally.

According to the Airport Service Quality Awards, of the 69 airports that received awards, the majority are in Europe – 24 of those, followed by those in Asia (22) and North America (11), while a total of five were in Latin America. In addition, four airports in Africa and three in the Middle East were awarded.

The only EU best airport with over 40 million passengers annually was Aeroporto di Roma-Fiumicino in Italy, competing with two Indian airports – Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport as well as Indira Gandhi International Airport.

In the category of best airports with 25 to 40 million passengers annually, were awarded three European airports; Athens International Airport in Greece, Palma de Mallorca Airport in Spain and Zurich Airport in Switzerland.

As per most enjoyable airports, in terms of offering shopping and dining offerings as well as entertainment and leisure options, the Italian Aeroporto di Roma-Fiumicino, was among the best ones, altogether, with Milan Bergamo Airport and Istanbul Airport (Turkey).
