AAP made councilor Baljit Singh Channi the mayor in Moga Municipal Corporation

In Punjab, Aam Aadmi Party made its mayor in Moga Municipal Corporation. Councilor Baljit Singh Channi, who was won by Aam Aadmi Party from Shabad No. 8 of Moga, was made the mayor of Moga Municipal Corporation. Moga, the first municipal corporation of Punjab, in which the Aam Aadmi Party has made its mayor.

The Aam Aadmi Party has also captured the Moga Municipal Corporation of Punjab. Baljit Singh Channi has become the new mayor of Moga. Out of total 50 councilors in Moga Municipal Corporation, 42 supported Baljit Singh Channi. Eight councilors were absent during the voting. After which Channi was unanimously elected as the mayor.

The new mayor is a municipal councilor from ward number 8. He contested the 2021 corporation elections on the Aam Aadmi ticket. Tight security arrangements were in place at the Mini Secretariat during voting. For this, the Divisional Commissioner had reached there.

Earlier, on July 4, Municipal Corporation Mayor Nitika Bhalla was removed by the councilors of the legislative faction on a no-confidence motion. Nitika Bhalla remained on the post of mayor for almost 2 years. After this, the senior deputy mayor Praveen Sharma was made acting mayor by giving additional charge.
