A speeding jeep rammed into two youths riding a bike on the southern bypass near Doraha in Ludhiana, killing one youth while his friend was seriously injured. Both the youths were going to worship and serve in the Gurdwara Sahib. After the incident, the driver escaped leaving the jeep on the spot.
The deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Manpreet Singh, a resident of village Keema Bhaini. While his friend has been identified as 25-year-old Amandeep Singh of Manadpur village in Rajpura. After getting information about the incident, Doraha police reached the spot and started investigation.
Amandeep has been admitted to a private hospital where his condition is said to be critical. Investigating ASI Sarjangdeep Singh said that both youths were going to Gurdwara Sri Rara Sahib.
When they reached the service lane on the southern bypass, a Mahindra jeep coming from village Gurthali Road hit them. With this, Manpreet and Amandeep fell on the road. In an attempt to escape, the driver increased the speed of the jeep. Both youths got trapped under the jeep. The driver dragged them away. Later he left the vehicle and ran away.
ASI said that Manpreet Singh died on the spot while Amandeep Singh is hospitalized. A case has been registered against the unidentified vehicle driver under sections 279, 337, 338, 427 and 304 A of the IPC. A raid is being conducted to arrest him. The police have impounded the vehicle.
