Bureau Report: Chief Minister Punjab Bhagwant Singh Mann has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the matter of giving water to Himachal Pradesh from Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB). In this, they have opposed the removal of NOC condition for giving water to Himachal. The central government had removed the condition of NOC by issuing instructions on May 15. Chief Minister Mann had written in his letter that BBMB is the only management which the central government cannot direct to give water. He wrote that the scale of giving water from Bhakra Beas Management Board has been fixed in advance. He said that the central government’s direct order to the BBMB was contrary to the Supreme Court’s order.
Before this, there has been a dispute between Punjab and the central government regarding BBMB for a long time. The Punjab government had accused the Center of reducing its stake in BBMB. There was also a demand to appoint officials from Punjab.
55 percent share of Punjab and 45 percent share of Haryana in BBMB
India’s share in BBMB is 45 percent and Haryana’s 45 percent, employees of both the states are appointed in BBMB in this ratio. The expenditure incurred on it is distributed in the same proportion. For a decade, the governments of Punjab and Haryana have not sent their employees on deputation. Due to which BBMB hired the employees of Himachal, but both the governments are sharing the expenses in the same way. In the meeting of BBMB, Punjab officials have objected to this several times.
There will be no future controversy regarding BBMB
Punjab Chief Secretary VK Janjua was asked to permanently end the controversy over appointments and postings in BBMB. For this, Punjab government had demanded to give green flag to X carder. He has said that CM Punjab will issue its orders after the final seal.
