In America, a Sikh granthi from New Jersey prayed before starting the proceedings of the House of Representatives, by doing this, Granthi Singh has created history. Granthi Giani Jaswinder Singh of New Jersey’s Pine Hill Gurdwara Sahib started the day’s proceedings by praying in the house on Friday. Usually a priest prays before the proceedings begin.
Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy announced on Friday that Jaswinder Singh would begin the proceedings. Immediately after the prayer, Congressman Donald Norcross called it a historic occasion. Jaswinder Singh is the first Sikh Granthi to pray in the US House of Representatives (lower house of the Parliament).
“The history made today is a reminder that America welcomes and values the free expression of religion and will always be committed to it,” Norcross said. Giani Jaswinder Singh has made South Jersey proud today and it is an honor to be a part of this moment with him.”
