Samajwadi Party (SP) president and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday appealed to the Election Commission to give a compensation of Rs 1 crore each to the families of officers and employees who lost their lives due to “mental and physical injuries” during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list.
The SP chief also announced to give Rs 2 lakh each to the families of these deceased. Yadav said on ‘X’, “This is a direct appeal to the Election Commission to give a compensation of Rs 1 crore for those who are losing their lives due to mental and physical injuries during SIR in Uttar Pradesh.”
Announcing his party’s assistance to the dependents of the deceased, he said, “We also pledge to provide an ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh to each dependent of the deceased.” Yadav also shared a video of a news story from Fatehpur which showed an accountant allegedly committing suicide a day before his wedding due to excessive work pressure.
According to the police, the body of accountant Sudhir Kumar, posted in Khajua block of Bindki tehsil, was found hanging in his room on Tuesday morning. Sudhir was recently given the responsibilities as an observer for SIR in Jehanabad assembly constituency. Sudhir’s fiancee Kajal said that he had a lot of work pressure, due to which he was very upset.
