61.7 Million Passengers Flew To, From or Through Schiphol Airport in 2023

Throughout the entire of 2023, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol witnessed a total of 61.7 million passengers, marking an increase of 18 per cent from 2022 (52.5 million) and a decrease of 14 per cent from 2019 (71.7 million).

During the same year, 441,963 air transport movements were recorded to and from Schiphol. In addition, Eindhoven Airport reached its peak with 6.8 million passengers, while The Hague Airport in Rotterdam embraced 2.2 million visitors, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

According to the data provided by Schiphol Airport, in 2023, nearly 61.7 million travellers were recorded, with 39.1 million flying directly to or from Schiphol, while 36 per cent opted for connecting flights at the airport.

There were also over 11 million unique transfer passengers, following international counting standards where each transfer passenger is tallied twiceโ€”once as an arriving traveller and once as a departing one.

At the same time, the air transport movements at the airport saw a total of 441,963, reflecting an 11 per cent increase from 2022 (397,646 aircraft movements) and an 11 per cent decrease from 2019 (496,826 aircraft movements). Among these movements, 425,994 were passenger flights, and 15,969 were cargo flights.

Schiphol directly connected the Netherlands to 305 destinations, 126 of them intercontinental. There were seven new destinations, including Alanya and additional connections to Mexico City and Beijing. 16 destinations were no longer flown to, including airports in Russia and Ukraine.

Further data from Schiphol shows that the airport saw 43 million passengers departing or arriving from European destinations last year, while 18 million travelled to or from intercontinental destinations.

The most popular destinations included Great Britain, Spain, and the United States. The airport also handled 1.37 million tons of cargo, a decrease of 4.8 per cent compared to 2022 (1.44 million tons). There were 15,969 cargo-only flights, marking a 12.9 per cent decrease from 2022 (18,340 cargo flights).

Moreover, Eindhoven Airport reached a milestone with a passenger count of 6.8 million in 2023, marking an increase of eight per cent from the previous year. The number of air transport movements increased from 40,252 to 41,496 (a three per cent increase), although the number of destinations decreased from 87 to 84.

Rotterdam The Hague Airport also experienced growth, with 2.2 million passengers in 2023, reflecting a five per cent increase compared to 2022 and a six per cent increase compared to 2019. The airport recorded 16,191 air transport movements, showing a three per cent increase from 2022 and a three per cent decrease compared to 2019.
