The advisory board formed by the Punjab government regarding NSA is headed by retired judge Shabihul Harsain. Prisoners lodged in jails under NSA appear before the Advisory Board every three months. The police will have to provide new evidence to extend the detention against them for the next 3 months. According to the NSA law, the police can detain the accused for a maximum of 1 year, after which they will have to be produced in the court. So far 9 Sikhs have been taken to Dibrugarh Jail under NSA, including Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal, Varinder Singh Johal, Gurmeet Singh Bookanwala, Harjit Singh Jallupur Khaira, Bhagwant Singh Bajeke, Daljit Singh Kalsi, Basant Singh, Gurinderpal Singh Aujla and Papalpreet Singh.
