An elderly woman named Nawad is part of the Saudi government’s special education program. Under this, people of any age can get basic education by going to government schools.
Nawad has four sons, the eldest son is 80 years old and the youngest is 50 years old. All the children are very happy seeing mother getting education even at this age. The third son drops them off at school and sits outside the school until the break so that the mother does not suffer.
The Saudi government has opened Al Rahwa centers in the country. Actually it is a basic education chain. Which is specially designed for the backward part of the South-West of the country. However, education programs are being run in some other parts as well.
As for Nawad, she lives in the Ummwah region of Saudi, the elderly woman believes that there is no age to learn. She says that as far as my education is concerned, it is true that they came late.
The Saudi government wants to completely eradicate illiteracy in the country. Nawad is so enthusiastic about getting education that it can be guessed only from the fact that since the day she joined the school till now she has not missed a single day.
What is Nawad learning?
According to the Arab World website, Nawad and many women and men like her are learning letter recognition and reading in school. Along with this, they are being taught the holy book Quran. Nawad says I study my lessons very carefully. I enjoy it a lot. I also get homework at school and I complete it the next day. My teacher also checks it. Saudi Arabia’s Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman is running a sector program to develop the country by 2030. Education is also included in it. Nawad is doing Prince Shukrana for this.
It was not easy to come to school
Nawad, who returned to school after almost 100 years, says that coming back to school at this stage of age was a difficult task. When I heard about this education program for the first time, it was very good. I feel that I should have started studying many years ago. Today I regret that I wasted many years without education. Now not only my life will change but I can also change the life of others. Nawad’s children are very happy to send their mother to school. They have supported them. A son says that it is not Allah’s will, I bring mother to school every day, I sit till the school holidays.
78 years old joined the school
There is no age to read, a 78-year-old man in East Mizoram has proved. A person named Lalringthara has taken admission in 9th class. When he was in the second class, his father died. After which he left his studies. Now he goes to school by walking 3 kilometers every day. Sit and read with children. Along with this, he also works as a guard in the church. Lalringdhara said that he has no problem in reading and writing in Mijo language, he wants to write applications in English and understand TV reports. The principal of the New Middle School said that Lalringdhara comes in uniform and is an example for the children.
