Zoharan Mamdani’s victory speech after being elected Mayor of New York ended with the much-loved song ‘Dhoom Macha Le’ from the 2004 film ‘Dhoom’, which shows his love for Bollywood. Zohran Mamdani, son of famous Indian filmmaker Mira Nair and Indian-origin Ugandan writer Mahmood Mamdani, has defeated former Governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican Party’s Curtis Sliwa. “New York, this power is yours,” Mamdani said in front of hundreds of supporters. He finished his speech by saying “Thank you”, when the title song of the film starring Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham started playing in the background. After the speech was over, Mamdani’s wife Rama Duvaji and his parents also reached the stage and during this, the tune of ‘Dhoom Macha Le’ continued playing in the background. Many of Mamdani’s election campaign videos used songs and dialogues from famous Hindi films to reach out to Indian-American voters in New York, which was very effective. ‘Dhoom Macha Le’ composer Pritam told PTI, “I was very interested to know the election results because Zoharan Mamdani is Mira Nair’s son. I expected him to win. As soon as I woke up in the morning, a friend of mine from America sent me the clip of Mamdani’s victory, with ‘Dhoom Macha Le’ playing in the background, and it felt perfect for the occasion.
