Malaysia High Commissioner Dato Muzaffar Shah Mustafa in India has given a big statement to hand over India to Zakir Naik. Mustafa said that we have a bilateral extradition agreement with India and a process that needs to be followed. The case of Zakir Naik is currently going through a legal process. The case is under the supervision of the court of Malaysia and will be settled on the basis of judicial view. There is no reason to extradite Zakir Naik on the basis of justification given by the Government of India. The matter has nothing to do with the Malaysia government.

Zakir Naik, who is famous for anti -India rhetoric, has serious allegations of money laundering, provoking youth for extremism and spreading hate. After leaving India in 2016, Naik was allowed for a permanent residence in Malaysia. India has been demanding his extradition since 2018, but the case is pending in Malaysian courts. High Commissioner Muzaffar Shah said that our bilateral extradition treaty with India and it is necessary to follow the appropriate process. Zakir Naik’s case is going on in the Malaysian court and the decision will be after judicial discussions.

The Malaysian ambassador said that the matter would proceed on the basis of evidence or reasons provided by the Government of India, and also said that Malaysia has no direct role in the matter. The statement came after Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s visit to India in August 2024, in which he said that if India offers concrete evidence, extradition will be considered. The latest comment of the High Commissioner gives positive indication in this direction, which highlights the cooperation under the purview of law.
