After an underestimate meeting of the Advisory Council, Planning Advisor Waheeduddin Mahmood told reporters that he (Yunus) did not say that he would leave the post. Mohammad Yunus will continue to be the head of the interim government of Bangladesh, a advisor of his cabinet gave this information on Saturday. There was speculation that Nobel laureate Yunus was considering resignation. After an underestimate meeting of the Advisory Council, Planning Advisor Waheeduddin Mahmood told reporters that he (Yunus) did not say that he would leave the post. He said that we have to face many obstacles in fulfilling the work and responsibilities assigned to us, but we are able to control them. Mahmud said that he (Yunus) will definitely stay here.
The Planning Advisor also said that no advisor in the interim government is going somewhere, because the responsibility assigned to them is important and they cannot be alienated from their duty. This amazing meeting of the Advisory Council took place a few hours before Yunus met leaders of top political parties in Bangladesh and Yunus had allegedly threatened to resign a few days before. His press secretary Shafiqul Alam told AFP this morning that Yunus would meet leaders of Shakti Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami. No agenda of talks has been released.
Bangladesh’s political crisis increased further this week, when rival parties staged a protest on the streets of the capital Dhaka, including several competitive demands. Thousands of supporters of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) marched in Dhaka on Thursday and demanded a fixed date of election. Yunus has promised that elections will be held in Bangladesh by June 2026, but BNP supporters are demanding that they decide the date.
